Bryan ISD School Lunch Programs Stable, Despite Govt. Shutdown

Child Nutrition Program Funding:
Since the start of the government shut down, School Food Authorities (SFA) have received mixed correspondence related to federal funding of school meals. The latest information received from the USDA on 10/11/13 states:
USDA has determined that additional funding is currently available, and is sufficient to support program activity for several months in FY 2014. This funding is provided through a permanent appropriation supporting the Child Nutrition programs, and its availability to support Child Nutrition program obligations does not depend on further action by Congress.

If additional information is received that would reverse the above statement, Bryan ISD School Nutrition Services could support themselves from their current fund balance for approximately 3 months. On average Bryan ISD receives $42,000/day to help cover the costs of providing meals to paid, reduced-price, and free students.
