Johnson Elementary continues to receive recognition for student success as it was named one of the 300 Texas Education Agency, TEA, Title I Reward Schools for the 2015-2016 school year.
The Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School earned recognition from TEA as both a high-performing and high-progress school based on statewide reading and mathematics assessments under the state accountability system in the 2014-2015 school year.
TEA designates schools as Title I campuses if their student population is at least 40 percent low-income. From that pool, high-performing schools are described by TEA as "schools with distinctions based on reading and math performance, as well as the highest graduation rates at the high school level." For 2015-2016, TEA only identified 160 Texas campuses as high-performing.
An even smaller number of campuses earned the designation of “high-progress schools,” with only 140 Texas schools making the Title I high-progress list. Johnson garnered the distinction because the TEA identified it as a Title I school in the top 25 percent in annual improvement or a school in the top 25 percent of those demonstrating ability to close performance gaps. TEA made this determination based on state accountability system safeguards in the 2014-2015 school year.
